IIT Madras Research Associate Recruitment 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has released a recruitment notice for the post of Research Associate - III in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

This is a temporary position initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following educational qualifications and experience requirements:

• Ph.D./MS or equivalent degree.
• OR 3 years of research, teaching, and design and development experience after ME/MTech, with at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Optics, Photonics, Instrumentation Engineering, data sciences, or a related field.

• Deep foundational knowledge in RF signal processing, electro-optics, and microwave photonics concepts.
• Extensive hands-on benchtop experience in designing, assembling, and testing high-speed analog optical links.
• Demonstrated proficiency in integrating and aligning discrete and integrated optoelectronic hardware, including narrow-linewidth lasers, electro-optic modulators, and high-power photodiodes.
• Proven ability to perform end-to-end optical and RF system characterization, including key metrics such as link gain, noise figure, spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR), phase noise, and frequency response.
• Expert operator of high-frequency laboratory instrumentation, such as Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSAs), RF Spectrum Analyzers, and high-bandwidth oscilloscopes.
• Familiarity with automated test environments and instrumentation control (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, PyVISA).

Note: The prescribed qualifications are minimum. Experience required can be relaxed at the discretion of the Institute for exceptionally outstanding candidates or candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe.

Salary / Pay Scale

Selected candidates will receive a consolidated pay of Rs. 67,000/- per month plus 30% House Rent Allowance (HRA).
