Eligibility

Computer Knowledge Explained: Candidates are required to have basic knowledge of computer applications. While you can apply without a certificate at the time of application, it is essential to submit proof of passing a basic computer knowledge test before the final appointment. Failure to do so will lead to the cancellation of your selection. It's advisable to acquire this certificate if you don't already have it.

Language Knowledge Explained: Proficiency in Gujarati or Hindi, or both, is a key requirement. This is important for effective communication within the state administration and with the public. Candidates should be comfortable reading, writing, and speaking at least one of these languages.

Age Limit

The age of the candidate must be between 18 and 33 years as of 15/09/2025. This means your birth date should fall within the specified range when calculated against this cut-off date. It's important to calculate your age accurately to avoid disqualification.

Age Relaxation: The GSSSB provides age relaxation for various categories as per government rules. Candidates belonging to reserved categories or specific groups can benefit from an extended upper age limit. The maximum age limit after relaxation is generally 45 years for most categories.

Candidates already in Gujarat Government service may also receive upper age limit relaxation as per the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967. Always check the official notification for the exact rules applicable to your specific category.

Application Fee

The fee must be paid online only using Debit Card, Internet Banking, UPI, or Wallets. Please note that a transaction fee may apply in addition to the application fee. It is important to complete the fee payment by the revised last date, which is 29/07/2026, 11:59 PM.

An important point to remember is that the fee is refundable only to candidates who actually appear for the examination. If you pay the fee but do not appear for the exam, the fee will not be refunded. This policy encourages serious applicants and helps manage examination logistics.

Selection Process

Competitive Examination: The primary stage is a competitive examination conducted in either Computer Based Response Test (CBRT) or Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) mode. This exam consists of objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. Candidates must perform well in both parts to qualify.

Qualifying Marks: To be considered for further stages, candidates must score a minimum of 40% marks in Part A and a minimum of 40% marks in Part B, independently. This means you cannot compensate for a low score in one part with a high score in the other. Meeting these individual qualifying standards is crucial for all categories.

Document Verification: Candidates who achieve the required qualifying marks will be shortlisted for document verification. The number of candidates called for this stage will be approximately twice the number of category-wise vacancies. This stage involves checking all your submitted documents, such as educational certificates, age proof, category certificates, and computer knowledge proof, against the original documents.

Final Selection: The final selection and waiting list will be prepared based on merit, considering the scores obtained in the competitive examination and within the respective category-wise vacancies. Additional merit benefits are provided for eligible widow candidates (5% additional marks) and sportspersons (5% additional marks) who meet specific criteria as detailed in the official notification.

Exam Pattern

The examination will consist of a total of 210 objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), carrying a total of 210 marks. The combined duration for both Part A and Part B of the exam will be 3 hours (180 minutes). This means candidates need to manage their time efficiently across both sections.

Negative Marking: There will be negative marking in the exam. For every wrong answer, 1/4 (0.25) mark will be deducted. This makes accuracy as important as attempting questions, so candidates should be careful while answering.

Qualifying Standard: To qualify for the next stage, candidates must secure a minimum of 40% marks in Part A and a minimum of 40% marks in Part B, independently. This applies to all categories. Failing to meet the minimum in either part will lead to disqualification, regardless of the total score.

Salary

Initially, selected candidates will be appointed on a fixed monthly pay. For Municipal Sanitary Inspector, this fixed pay is ₹26,000 for the first five years, along with other benefits as per applicable Finance Department resolutions. For Sanitary Sub Inspector specifically appointed at Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, the fixed pay of ₹26,000 applies for the first three years.

After the fixed pay period and subject to satisfactory service, candidates become eligible for regular appointment. For Municipal Sanitary Inspector, this is in the 7th Pay Commission scale of ₹25,000 to ₹81,100 (Level-4). For Sanitary Sub Inspector at Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, after three years of satisfactory service, they become eligible for the 7th Pay Commission Level-4 scale of ₹25,500 to ₹81,100, as per the corrigendum. It's important to note that candidates appointed at Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation will not be treated as Gujarat Government employees during their fixed pay period, but will transition to a similar pay scale.
