Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad has announced a recruitment drive for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under a sponsored project. This is a research-oriented position with the potential for PhD registration.

Project Title: Development of a Novel Formate-Based Injection Method for Enhanced Carbon Storage and Oil Recovery in Cambay Basin Oil Fields: Supporting Energy Security and Net-Zero Goals

Department: Petroleum Engineering

Location: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand

Tenure: Initially for one year, extendable up to three years or project completion.

PhD Opportunity: Selected candidates may be allowed to register for a PhD program at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following educational and qualification requirements:

• Essential Qualification: B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Petroleum Engineering/Chemical Engineering OR M.Sc. in Chemistry.
• Mandatory Qualification: Candidate must be GATE or NET qualified.
• Desirable Qualification:
  • For Petroleum Engineering: Experience or knowledge in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and reservoir simulation.
  • For Chemistry/Chemical Engineering: Knowledge of basic chemistry of salt, surfactants, and polymers.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for candidates is 28 years at the time of appointment. Age relaxation will be provided to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layer)/Female candidates as per Government of India/DST rules.

Fellowship (Salary)

The selected candidate will receive a fellowship as follows:

• Rs. 37,000/- + Applicable HRA per month for the first two years.
• This may be extended to one more year with a fellowship of Rs. 42,000/- + Applicable HRA per month, based on satisfactory performance.

Candidates will be selected based on their application and performance in an online interview. The interview is tentatively scheduled for 7th October 2026.
