Vacancy Details

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Candidates must be a citizen of India. Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, or Vietnam with the intention of settling in India are also eligible, provided they have the necessary eligibility certificates.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant field. The specific qualifications are:

  • Geologist / Assistant Geologist / Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) / Assistant Hydrogeologist: Master's degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies, Petroleum Geosciences, or Geochemistry. For Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) and Assistant Hydrogeologist, a Master's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology is required.
  • Geophysicist / Assistant Geophysicist / Scientist 'B' (Geophysics): M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, or Marine Geophysics.
  • Chemist / Assistant Chemist / Scientist 'B' (Chemical): M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Hydro-Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry.

The degree must be from a University established by an Act of Parliament, State Legislature, or a UGC-recognized institution. A Master's degree is considered a postgraduate degree of at least two years' duration after graduation.

Candidates awaiting their final results can also apply, provided they submit proof of passing before the Personality Test.

Age Limit

Candidates must be at least 21 years old and not more than 32 years old as of 1 January 2027. This means candidates should be born not earlier than 2 January 1995 and not later than 1 January 2006.

Age relaxations are applicable:

  • Up to 5 years for Government servants employed in GSI or CGWB applying for their respective posts.
  • Up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
